This is the story of the life and death of a mouse. If you don’t like the death part then you can go to this website.
In the year 2000, I lived with 2 other guys in a house in Bellevue, WA. Soon after moving in, we quickly found out that we had a mouse in the house. None of us guys were keen on having a mouse running around. In fact, when we heard or saw the mouse we pretty much jumped and shrieked like a bunch of little school girls.
We didn’t have much experience with rodent removal so we decided to go with the classic mouse trap. We procured some mouse traps from the local hardware store and moved forward with setting them up. Because of our encounters we knew the small visitor was coming into the house through the a space by the furnace in the mud room. So we setup a trap just outside of the furnace. What to use for bait ? Cheese, of course.
After a few days, we noticed the cheese was disappearing off the trap, but no mouse in the trap ! When we inspected the traps there was not a single cheese crumb anywhere to be found and the trap was still fully set. We switched to peanut butter thinking that would do the trick. The peanut butter would stick to the trap and make it harder to remove without full trap activation.
No luck! Once again the trap was clean and no mouse. It was at this point that we were thinking we needed to find out what’s going on in there. I had this LegoCam video recorder laying around so we decided to use that and see if we could record the mouse in action.
We set up the LegoCam on the floor just a few feet from the trap. The LegoCam was basically a webcam and connected to our computer via USB. The LegoCam had a long USB cable so we were able to string it under the door into the other room and hook it up to a laptop. We configured the software so it would record on motion detection. All the videos got saved locally to the computer.
